GREENVILLE, NC – In a move that will likely leave forklift enthusiasts and power grid engineers equally breathless, Hyster unveils and has announced a groundbreaking onboard charging solution for their lithium-ion electric forklifts. The company proudly claims this innovation is perfect for "locations with intermittent charging availability," which we assume means any place where plugging something in doesn't immediately trip a breaker.

Hyster’s new system works with several models, including the J40XNTL and E80XNL—names that roll off the tongue like poetry. Equipped with a 240 V 50-amp cable, adaptors for smaller outlets, and a handy storage bin, this system promises forklift operators the convenience of charging on-the-go or from Aunt Susan’s kitchen outlet, as long as they don’t also need the toaster.

James Nielson, Hyster’s senior business product manager for Motive Power and Electrification (a title clearly charged with electrifying the room), emphasized the broader implications of this innovation. “Sustainability isn’t optional anymore—just like office birthday parties and endless email threads,” Nielson declared.

For those wondering, charging times range from a brisk two hours and 35 minutes (240 V) to an overnight endeavor of 11 hours and five minutes (120 V). This means your forklift can juice up in about the time it takes to binge-watch a season of The Great British Bake Off.

The company is confident that this solution will appeal to industries that have neither the funds nor the inclination to install actual charging infrastructure. After all, as Hyster aptly points out, what better way to fight climate change than with a forklift parked at your nearest laundromat, hogging their power outlet?

As the materials handling world buzzes with excitement, the rest of us will wait patiently for the day we can charge forklifts wirelessly, like the rest of our overpriced gadgets. Until then, Hyster’s onboard charging solution is here to shock and awe—mostly awe, we hope.
