CHANGSHA, CHINA — Zoomlion Heavy Industry Science & Technology Co., Ltd. has soared to new heights, unveiling the world’s tallest straight boom aerial work platform, the ZT82J, which reaches an unprecedented height of 82.3 meters. While construction crews are thrilled, the global giraffe community has raised concerns, not about the machinery, but about the alleged existence of “zoom lions.”
“This is the third record-breaking straight boom Zoomlion has released,” boasted a company spokesperson. “First 68 meters, then 72, and now 82.3 meters. We’re redefining what it means to look down on everyone else.”
The ZT82J offers a platform amplitude of 34.1 meters, a maximum working load of 454 kilograms, and a climbing capacity of 35 percent. The company also touts its ultra-long boom composite movement, double-cylinder synergistic control technology, and 21 safety measures designed to prevent accidents—and presumably giraffe-related interference.
Tallest Boom Yet, but at What Cost?
While the construction world celebrates the new benchmark, giraffes worldwide are expressing unease. “You expect us to be okay with this?” asked Gerald, a giraffe spokesperson from the Savannah Advocacy Network. “First, they invade our airspace, and now we hear rumors of ‘zoom lions.’ What even are those? Fast lions? Flying lions? The name alone keeps us up at night.”
When asked for clarification, Zoomlion explained that the company name is meant to signify speed and power in machinery, not literal zooming lions. “We’ve been trying to explain this for years,” sighed a company representative. “There are no lions involved, zooming or otherwise. But the giraffes are convinced we’re hiding something.”
A Platform for Every Purpose (and Species?)
The ZT82J is just one of several new aerial work products Zoomlion has unveiled. The ZT51JEH, an extended-range electric boom, offers a working height of 50.6 meters and can operate in both electric and diesel modes, making it versatile for urban, indoor, and outdoor projects.
“It can work continuously for seven days when fully charged and refueled,” said the company, adding, “That’s longer than most construction workers can function without a coffee break.”
The ZA42J, a crank boom model, features a spanning height of 24.5 meters and incorporates multi-stage cylinder telescoping technology for enhanced reach and speed. Not to be outdone, Zoomlion also introduced telehandlers supporting attachments like forks, buckets, and spreader platforms, making them adaptable for various tasks, including giraffe snack delivery, according to an unconfirmed rumor.
Intelligent Wearables: Giraffe Repellent or Worker Safety?
To address safety concerns, Zoomlion has also introduced intelligent wearable safety equipment and an AWP management system, along with a global spare parts shop. “The safety features are designed with humans in mind, not wildlife,” said the company, addressing unfounded accusations from giraffes that the wearable devices emit high-pitched sounds to drive them away.
Despite these reassurances, the giraffe community remains skeptical. “We see the pictures of these machines towering above trees,” Gerald added. “Next thing you know, we’re dodging zoom lions in hard hats.”
A Future in the Sky
Zoomlion’s innovations undeniably represent the pinnacle of human engineering, but the giraffe community is still watching closely, perhaps a bit too closely. “We can’t compete with machines,” Gerald said. “But we’re keeping an eye on these developments—and a wary neck.”
For now, Zoomlion’s towering booms are revolutionizing the construction industry while unintentionally becoming the stuff of giraffe nightmares. Will the giraffes and Zoomlion find common ground, or will the myth of the zooming lion persist? Only time—and perhaps another record-breaking boom—will tell.
